Ships berth at Port Zante, a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Circus, on calls that ran 9 to 12 hours in October 2026. Island tours start at $55 and the five-line Sky Safari zip line is $99 direct.

Port Zante's two piers and Maupau Casino
Port Zante stands on about 15 acres reclaimed from Basseterre Bay in 1995, used only by cruise ships, with a marina alongside. Its second pier was started in early 2018 and finished in November 2019 at a cost CruiseMapper puts at US$48 million. It lets two Oasis-class ships berth at once, though the same page elsewhere says three of the largest ships. Ships do not tender here in normal conditions. On very busy days one may use the Deep Water Harbour or anchor offshore, with the ship's own shuttle or tender arrangements. The Traveler reported 68 calls in March 2026, with some three-ship days of more than 12,000 visitors.
The historic center is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the port, by CruiseMapper's reckoning, and no beach is within walking distance. South Friars Bay is 6 to 8 km (3.7 to 5 mi) away, Cockleshell Bay about 16 km (10 mi) and Brimstone Hill about 17 km (10.6 mi) northwest of town. CruiseMapper publishes no taxi fares but advises agreeing the total fare, the currency, the stops and the return time before leaving the port. The Traveler notes staggered tour departures and new signage from the pier to the transport hubs on multi-ship days.
Captain Sunshine's guides wait in front of Maupau Casino, immediately to the right on leaving the Arrivals Hall. Spectrum ATV's driver stands at the exit of the pier terminal with a blue ATV Tour sign, and its page promises transport to and from the port. Greg's Safaris collects cruise guests at Port Zante without naming a spot. Sky Safari runs a shuttle from Basseterre to its Wingfield Estate base but states no cruise pickup point on its site.
Atlantic time and pickups 1.5 hours before all-aboard
Basseterre keeps Atlantic Standard Time, UTC minus 4, so from early November to mid-March it runs an hour ahead of the Florida home ports, and in summer the clocks match. CruiseMapper's October 2026 schedule showed calls of 9 to 12 hours. Star of the Seas was listed 8 am to 5 pm on October 1 and 22, and Celebrity Beyond 7 am to 4 pm on October 15. Carnival Dream ran 8 am to 5 pm on October 24 and Mein Schiff 2 from 7 am to 7 pm on October 28. Cruise Timetables listed calls on 4 days in October 2026 and 26 in November.
Captain Sunshine is the only operator here to spell out its return timing. Guests who take the optional beach stop at Frigate Bay are collected about 1.5 hours before all-aboard, and those who skip it ride back to the ship at the tour's end. Sky Safari says the full Skyline tour takes 2 to 3 hours including the shuttle, harnessing and orientation. Spectrum ATV runs at 8:30 am, 11 am, noon and 1 pm. Greg's Safaris' tour is 3.5 hours. None of the four publishes a formal back-to-ship guarantee or a refund for a ship that skips the island.
Wingfield Estate zip lines, Brimstone Hill, Timothy Hill
Sky Safari's five zip lines run from the Wingfield Estate, with a highest point of 250 ft, a lowest of 10 ft and platforms no more than 20 ft tall. Riders reach up to 80 km/h depending on weight, and the last line is a dual race line. Adults aged 14 to 64 pay $99, children 13 and under and seniors 65 and over $75, Caribbean residents $60, and a family of four $306. Riders must be 6 or older and weigh 60 to 275 lb. Carnival sells the same zip line as Soar Above: Sky Safari Zipline at $109.99 per person for 3 hours.
Brimstone Hill Fortress, begun in 1690 and built over more than a century, was inscribed by UNESCO in 1999 and sits on a 972 ft hill about 17 km from Basseterre. The park opens daily from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm and charges US$15, half price for children 12 and under. Captain Sunshine's $75 Brimstone Hill tour includes the entrance fee and the stops of its $55 Panoramic Highlights tour. Those are Basseterre, Wingfield Plantation with a rum drink, Romney Manor's 6 acres of gardens and Caribelle Batik, and the Timothy Hill photo stop between the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Both end with optional beach time at Frigate Bay.
Greg's Safaris, which says it has run modified open-sided Land Rover Defenders since 1989, climbs above 1,000 ft for a picnic under the trees. It then drops down the Atlantic coast to Frigate Bay Beach and the Bistro for an hour. The 3.5-hour trip costs $100 per adult and $75 for children 3 to 12, with a minimum of 4 guests or $360. Spectrum ATV's ride starts at the Wingfield Estate and follows sugar cane paths past the ruins of a centuries-old estate. It costs $110, and the page does not say whether that is per rider or per machine; child passengers pay $50.
Rain-or-shine trucks, 80% refunds and a four-guest minimum
Captain Sunshine's Tour Services, which calls its team the Sunshine Brothers, uses an open-air safari truck or an air-conditioned van and includes entrance fees in both tours. It runs rain or shine and publishes no cancellation terms, though its homepage offers 10% off with the code Sunshine. It is also the only operator that states where to meet (Maupau Casino) and how long before all-aboard beach guests are collected (about 1.5 hours).
Sky Safari St. Kitts keeps the most of any cancellation: nothing is refunded inside 24 hours, 50% between 24 and 48 hours, and 80% further out, with a full refund only when the operator cancels. It runs year round in all weather except thunderstorms and requires closed-toe shoes. Spectrum ATV asks for cancellation by phone or email at least 24 hours before the tour or pickup time and sets a weight guideline of about 350 lb that varies by machine. Drivers under 18 need a parent to sign the waiver, and small children ride as passengers.
Greg's Safaris needs 4 guests (a $360 minimum charge), accepts US currency, and limits riders to 280 lb each. Its return transport covers Basseterre and Frigate Bay, with a fee for drop-offs elsewhere, and its pages give no cancellation policy. The company also lists a Sugar Heritage 4x4 tour, a Valley of Giants rainforest walk with Indigenous petroglyphs, and private hire of a Defender, none with prices online.
Watching from shore
The Circus and the Berkeley Memorial. Basseterre's tourist center was modeled on London's Piccadilly Circus; its fountain, built in 1883, is dedicated to Thomas Berkeley Hardtman Berkeley. CruiseMapper puts the historic center 10 to 15 minutes' walk from Port Zante.
Independence Square. The older center of town, formerly Pall Mall Square, holds the cathedral, the courthouse and most of the city's oldest buildings.
Before you book
The Eastern Caribbean dollar has been fixed at EC$2.70 to US$1 since July 1976, and the issuing bank sits in Basseterre. CruiseMapper says US dollars are widely accepted and advises carrying small bills for taxis, minibuses and small purchases.
Agree the total taxi fare, the currency, the stops and the return time before leaving the port, CruiseMapper advises.
Sky Safari requires closed-toe shoes and riders of 60 to 275 lb; it suggests insect repellent, sunscreen and a hat. Greg's Safaris sets a 280 lb limit per seat in its Defenders.
Captain Sunshine runs rain or shine, and Basseterre's wet season runs May to November, with brief scattered showers; December to April is dry.
The independent tours listed here start at $55 per adult for Captain Sunshine's panoramic island tour and reach $110 for Spectrum ATV's classic ride. Sky Safari charges $99 per adult for its zipline direct; Carnival lists its Sky Safari zipline from $109.99 per person.
Can I walk into Basseterre from the cruise pier?
Yes. SmartCruiser says the Circus and Independence Square are a flat walk of about 10 minutes from Port Zante, and licensed taxis wait at the port exit at government-set fares for longer trips.
