A federal marine park begins just south of the International Pier, and independent snorkel trips to its reefs start at $50 (NCL lists its catamaran snorkel from $139.99). November to early April is peak season.
Put in your ship's arrival and all-aboard times from your cruise planner. Each tour is checked against the time you have, minus the buffer you choose for getting off the ship and back to the pier.
Example times are filled in. Your cruise line's daily planner has the real ones, and a tender port needs more buffer.

Puerta Maya took every Carnival ship listed on the API Quintana Roo arrivals schedule for October 1 to 24, 2026, plus Regal Princess. SSA Mexico, which tour operators list as the International Pier, handled Icon, Symphony, Star and Enchantment of the Seas, Celebrity Reflection and Disney Destiny. Punta Langosta took Mariner and Radiance of the Seas, the MSC and Norwegian ships, Disney Treasure and Disney Fantasy. Berths can change from week to week: Margaritaville at Sea Islander alternated between SSA Mexico and Punta Langosta, and Celebrity Beyond used both SSA Mexico and Puerta Maya.
Punta Langosta is in downtown San Miguel. The other two terminals sit south of town on the southwest coast, and sources disagree on how far: Cruise Critic says about five miles (roughly 15 minutes by car), Cruise Hive about 3 miles. Cruise Hive puts the Puerta Maya and International entrances less than 1,500 ft apart. Taxis wait at the pier entrances, and Cruise Critic quotes about $5 to $10 into San Miguel. Agree on the fare before getting in, since rideshare apps do not operate on the island.
Cozumel Cruise Tours collects snorkelers at all three piers, where its staff wear orange shirts. Cozumel Off Road starts from the motor lobby of the El Cid La Ceiba hotel, about 100 yards from Puerta Maya by its count. Cozumel Snorkel Center meets at Asta Bandera downtown, by the ferry terminal, or at the El Cid La Ceiba hotel pier. Cozumel Tours (JS) sets its meeting point by pier and runs its Jeep tour as self-drive, citing taxi union regulations (the island's union is Adolfo López Mateos).
Late October 2026 calls on the port authority schedule last 8.5 to 11.5 hours from scheduled arrival to departure. Most Carnival calls at Puerta Maya that week ran from 6:30 or 7:30 am to 4 pm. Icon of the Seas was listed from 7 am to 6 pm, MSC Seashore from 7:30 am to 7 pm and Norwegian Aqua from 9:30 am to 7 pm. Each row on the schedule is marked as scheduled, arrived or cancelled, so it also shows whether a call went ahead.
Quintana Roo moved to the Zona Sureste time zone in 2015 and has stayed on UTC minus 5 all year since, with no daylight saving time. From the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, US East Coast ports are on daylight time, so the island runs an hour behind Florida. Check whether the all-aboard time in the ship's daily program is ship time or island time.
Cozumel Cruise Tours says it watches ship schedules and returns guests to the pier with at least 45 minutes to spare. Cozumel Snorkel Center advertises a back-to-ship guarantee without stating terms. Cozumel Tours (JS) starts its Jeep tour of about 6 hours at 9 am or 11 am. The later start finishes around 5 pm, after the 4 pm departures common for Carnival in late October. Cozumel Off Road ends its tours where they began, near the piers.
Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park was declared on July 19, 1996, and covers about 120 sq km (46 sq mi) on the island's south side. It starts just south of the International Pier, wraps around Punta Sur and forms part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. Cozumel Cruise Tours' snorkel trip of 4 to 4.5 hours visits Palancar Shallows, Colombia Reef, a second reef garden and El Cielo for $50. Cozumel Snorkel Center's 4-hour Colombia, Palancar and Cielo trip costs MXN 1,100 per adult.
Jeep tours take up most of a port day. Cozumel Tours (JS) runs a self-drive tour of about 6 hours from $79 online (list price $100). It stops first at Punta Sur Natural Park, then the San Gervasio ruins, a tequila tasting and Playa Uvas Beach Club. Entry to Punta Sur and San Gervasio costs an extra $47 per person. Cozumel Off Road's private Jeep and snorkel tour lasts about 5.5 hours at $89 per person, with Punta Sur Eco Park access, the marine park fee and a Mexican lunch included.
NCL sells a 4-hour catamaran sail and reef snorkel from $139.99 per adult and $119.99 per child, for ages 4 and up and guests up to 250 lb. Cozumel Cruise Tours' $50 El Cielo trip runs about as long and includes the park permit, chips with guacamole and salsa, fruit, beer and soft drinks, snorkel gear and transport from the terminal. Its boats carry no more than 12 guests. The company says it uses only reef-safe sunscreen, though CONANP's rules for the park ban sunscreen outright.
Of the four operators, only Cozumel Cruise Tours collects guests at the piers themselves. Its El Cielo trip is $50, including the park permit, paid as a refundable $18 online deposit with the rest due on the day. Boats leave at 9:30 am, 10:30 am and 1:30 pm, and the company recommends a morning trip, when fewer boats are out. It promises a full refund if the ship does not dock or arrives too late for the tour.
Cozumel Snorkel Center prices in pesos only, MXN 1,100 per adult and MXN 1,000 per child, and its list of inclusions does not mention the MXN 225 park fee. It says the trip is not suitable for children under 4. Cancellations or changes are free up to 24 hours ahead, and it refunds in full if the Port Authority closes the port.
Cozumel Off Road sells private Jeeps, one party per vehicle, at $89 per person or $178 for a solo traveler, marine park fee included. It says it has run since 1998 with five Jeeps and room for 22 passengers a day, and it refunds in full if the ship skips Cozumel. Cozumel Tours (JS) seats up to five per Jeep, needs at least two per booking and may put separate parties together. Its drivers must be 16 or older and licensed, and its site promises a full refund if the ship is late or does not call.
